A Grandmother’s Dream
Pemphero and Yankho’s grandmother has a simple wish: to see these children finish their education, become who they dream of becoming, and one day stand confidently on their own.
Because of our donor’s generosity, that dream is possible.
Born as twins on December 17, 2017, Yankho and Pemphero entered the world as the youngest children in their family. Their older brother passed away before they were born, so they know him only through the stories shared by their family.
When the twins were just three years old, they experienced another heartbreaking loss. Their mother passed away. Since then, their grandmother has been their caregiver, opening her home and her heart to raise them.
Their grandmother, now a widow herself, works tirelessly to provide for the twins. She tends a small garden near their home, participates in piece work, and is also part of the Deep Bed Farming initiative. But despite her determination and love for these children, providing food, healthcare, clothing, and education on her own would be an overwhelming challenge.
That is where your generosity steps in.
Because of you, Pemphero and Yankho are not just attending school, they are receiving the foundation they need to thrive. Not only do they have access to quality education at MCM Academy, they are bolstered with nutritious meals, support from caring teachers, access to healthcare, and the encouragement that reminds them they are valued and capable.
The twins joined MCM Academy in 2020 and have now spent six important years growing within a community that sees their potential.
Yankho, now in Standard 5, dreams of a future in agriculture. She looks up to Aunt Angelina, admiring the way she works with community farmers and helps others improve their lives. Through MCM's programs and role models around her, Yankho is already discovering the kind of leader she hopes to become.
Pemphero, now in Standard 2, dreams of becoming a police officer. His teachers recognize that learning does not always come easily for him. He is a thoughtful child who sometimes needs extra time and support to remember new concepts. Because MCM Academy provides individualized attention and smaller learning environments, his challenges are met with patience and encouragement rather than becoming barriers to his future.
Beyond academics, their grandmother will tell you that the twins are a gift. They help with household chores, care for one another, and share a bond that brings joy into their home. She calls them her friends. She loves watching them grow together; the way they encourage each other, look out for each other, and face life side by side.
Your support keeps a promise to children like Pemphero and Yankho; a promise that poverty, loss, or difficult circumstances will not decide how far their education can take them.
Together, we are giving them the opportunity to learn, grow, and build the independent futures they deserve.
Because when potential takes root, there is no limit to how far it can grow.
