12 Years Of Global Collaboration

"Tomorrow belongs to the child, their dreams and potential shall shape a future yet untold."  Poet Glenn Thomas

For 12 years, MCM’s Global Classroom Program has connected students in Malawi with peers across the U.S. and the impact continues to grow.

Kondwani, our Global Classroom Coordinator at MCM Academy, shares what he sees every day. "Our students are more confident, their English is improving, and they’re learning about life in other countries. They’ve made friends, collaborated on projects, and discovered the power of creativity and problem-solving. Overall, they are becoming skilled, more open-minded individuals and enjoy learning.”

This year, students from Derby AcademySaddle River Day School and PS 52 collaborate with MCM Academy learners over Zoom, letters, videos and shared projects, learning from and about each other

The program has grown beyond the classroom. MCM students now pilot an innovative software program created by SRDS high school student Sophie, to improve their English writing skills. Former U.S. Global Classroom participants have traveled to Malawi to volunteer and meet their “friends” whom they’ve written to since second grade. These extensions deepen connections, reinforce learning, and make the program even more meaningful.

“Having the opportunity to connect with MCM students at such a young age was incredibly impactful. The experience shaped my sense of empathy and broadened my understanding of the world. It continues to motivate me to seek connection with those around me, especially people whose background and experience differ from my own.” Joely former Global Classroom Participant

This work reflects the mission of MCM and our partner schools; nurturing curious, empathetic, and globally aware young people. What began as a conversation about water has grown into a platform for learning that lasts long after the calls end.

How can you support the Global Classroom Program?
Technology makes it possible!

Through every project and friendship, students see that their voices matter allowing their potential to take root. I feel confident that these connections are shaping compassionate leaders for tomorrow.
