Life Skills
Preparing For Independence
MCM provides practical life skills and social guidance to prepare our young adults for employment, to manage resources, and confidently transition into independent living.
Technology Instruction
At every age MCM’s children receive instruction to learn technical skills to serve them in higher education and future vocations. MCM Academy includes weekly classes for PreK - STD 4 on donated iPads, while STD 5 - 8 learn on MacBook Pros. Older students receive individualized support to learn practical applications.
Financial Literacy
In order to prepare our children to run their own small business, manage their finances and to provide long term support for their families, they must first be taught how to manage money and basics for a business start up. Our older children participate in financial literacy workshops to provide the skills they otherwise do not have opportunities to learn or the experiences.
Vocational Training
MCM’s Vocational Training Program which launched in 2023 for tailoring and then in 2024 for barbering/hairdressing offers young adults in the community the opportunity to learn a viable trade. These students were previously unemployed and reported being unable to provide for their families doing “piece work”. Graduates go on to start local businesses and reverse the cycle of poverty for their families.
Mentorship
MCM’s Young Women’s and Young Men’s Initiatives empower the 12 - 25 year old participants to face the disadvantages that are the norm for most vulnerable young people Malawi. We focus on building life skills and self-respect through mentorship and character development towards a future of independence.
