Mission Statement
The Malawi Children’s Mission (MCM) has been formed for one reason: to serve orphaned and vulnerable children of Malawi, Africa. Our aim is to feed under-nourished children, to assist in their education, provide basic health services and to show these children that they are loved. Children who understand that they are cared for are far more likely to grow up as responsible individuals and contributors to their communities.
Values
The core values of MCM can be best described with three symbols.
Hands: provide the physical and nutritional needs of vulnerable children
Head: assist in educational and skills development
Heart: offer emotional and spiritual support, counseling, and encouragement.
Organization
Malawi Children’s Mission was founded in the summer of 2007 by Steven Koffman and Sean Robinson in response to the visible needs of orphaned and vulnerable children in Malawi. After extensive field research and several in-country visits, MCM was formed to deliver humanitarian support services at the local level in central Malawi.
Tax Exempt Status
The Malawi Children’s Mission is a non-profit organization (“public charity”) exempt from Federal income tax under section 501(c)(3) of the Internal Revenue Code. The IRS deems contributions to MCM as deductible under section 170 of the code. Registered in the State of California, MCM is also exempt from California franchise or income tax under the California Revenue and Taxation Code 23701d.
Local Organization
MCM seeks to serve children at the local level by delivering services through local Malawians. MCM has contracted with Mbwana Children’s Mission, a non-governmental organization (NGO) in Blantyre to manage the construction of the center and to maintain, support, and operate the facilities. Mbwana Children’s Mission is registered as a “local NGO” and its board also includes board members of MCM.
